Introduction

A proper understanding of international trade is the key to strengthening international competitiveness and promoting exports. In line with the global trends of internationalization and increasing openness, the International Trade department teaches and researches theoretical knowledge and practical techniques related to international trade, which plays a leading role in national economic development. The curriculum focuses on fostering "trade experts" who can properly understand changes in international trade and handle trade affairs effectively, contributing to growing export and developing industries and "cultivating talents" among students who will lead the era of localization. The Department of International Trade has set its educational goals on the basic principle of “nurturing professionals that society really needs.”

Accordingly, in addition to the general goal of international trade studies, "cultivating trade experts," the department has recently put a significant emphasis on "the training of international trade agents," which is aimed at meeting the needs of businesses and societies for the production of practical knowledge. To achieve the goal, the department has developed and operates a variety of educational programs such as basic theories of international trade transactions, practical practices of international commerce, customs and jurisprudence, trade management skills, international trade issues, and international e-commerce. Five full-time professors currently serve in the department, specializing in and giving lectures about international trade, international commerce, international e-commerce, and international business management.
In particular, Soonchunhyang University was the only higher-education institution in Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province to be selected for the "Trade Professional Training Industry" by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy and established the "Trade Startup Incubator Group." This group provides an opportunity for 3rd grade students to get startup education and on-the-job trading and run a real trading company for a year, allowing them to engage in trade start-ups and trade businesses immediately.
