We Cultivate True Talents
who Respect For Life With The Right Ethics
Dept. of Premedical Studies
Introduction
Medicine is a discipline that studies health and diseases related to humans' noble life and provides treatments with the aim of contributing to improving human welfare so that people can fully enjoy a healthy and happy life. Students will be able to cultivate capabilities to become leaders
in the globalized and highly advanced medical field through a two-year pre-medical course, learning liberal arts subjects in the humanities and social sciences and specialty subjects in natural science and preclinical medicine. In particular, under the Soonchunhyang spirit of love for
humanity, our students learn to care for and love patients and give a sense of hope and happiness to provide them with a higher quality of life. Furthermore, it is the goal of this department to help students foster basic qualities to be doctors with needed character, virtue, and medical
knowledge.
-
Preparing for a well-rounded education
The course lays the foundation for becoming a well-educated, well-rounded doctor. It focuses on interpersonal skills, leadership, particularly the love of humanity, the founding philosophy through studying human empathy, medical ethics and sociology, communication studies, media
literature reading, and a social service completion graduation system.
-
Preparing for the medical course
Students will complete Physical chemistry, organic chemistry, genetics, molecular biology, cytology, biology, and comparative anatomy step in phases to prepare systematically for professional medical education in the medical department. In addition, in order to maximize the efficiency
of education, from pre-medical courses, clinical professors are directly engaged in the education in some curricula.
-
Preparing for an advanced future in medicine
Our state-of-the-art computer server equipped with a database of learning materials enables education and practices provided through a digital network. Students will complete biofunctional materials science, biomedical engineering, and medical informatics to acquire the application of
natural science to medicine and interdisciplinary convergence, allowing them to adapt to the rapidly evolving new paradigm of medicine.
-
Preparing for a global era
In preparation for internationalization and globalization, the department has implemented an English test certification system for pre-graduation qualifications (at least 800 points in TOEIC), preclinical medicine lectures delivered by English-speaking professors, and an EPL (English
Presentation Lecture) for each group. We encourage students to participate in the six-week Summer Session Program (SSP) every year in cooperation with UCLA, and we also provide opportunities to take part in various overseas training programs, such as field trip programs to overseas
universities supported by the SCH Medical/Bio Center and language training programs hosted by the International Education Exchange Headquarters. These will help students deepen international perspectives and insights and help them grow into Global Standard Doctors (GSDs) in the
future.
Educational Objectives
The objective of education is to help students acquire the basic qualities needed to become kind and trusted doctors with exemplary character and virtues who genuinely care for patients and give them a sense of hope and happiness for a higher quality of life, under the Soonchunhyang spirit
of a love for humanity.
