Soonchunhyang University held an unveiling ceremony for the Hyeongok Grand Auditorium sign at Human Love Hall on campus on the 25th, showcasing the newly renovated, state-of-the-art educational and cultural space.

The event was attended by Seo Kyo-il, Chairman of the Dong-Eun Educational Foundation, President Song Byeong-kug, key university officials, and representatives of faculty, staff, and students. Attendees unveiled the auditorium sign before moving inside to hear an overview of the renovation process and major facilities, followed by a demonstration of the high-resolution video and audio systems.

Soonchunhyang University has transformed its aging auditorium into a large-scale, state-of-the-art educational and cultural space designed for the era of digital transformation. Hyeongok Grand Auditorium will host large-scale lectures, meetings, and academic and cultural events, serving as a student-centered, future-oriented learning space that supports academic restructuring centered on AI-medical convergence.

Previously known simply as the "Grand Auditorium," the space was renamed after "Hyeongok (賢谷)," the pen name of Chairman Seo Kyo-il, to give it symbolic and historical significance. "Hyeongok" combines the Chinese characters for "virtuous" (賢) and "valley" (谷), symbolizing a space that embraces and nurtures individuals of virtue and wisdom.

Following the unveiling ceremony, the university held its Faculty Meeting for the Second Semester of the 2026 Academic Year at Hyeongok Grand Auditorium. The meeting included introductions of new faculty members appointed in September 2026, a special lecture on "Purpose of IRB Review and Compliance Guidelines" by Kim Jeung-im, Chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB), and reports on key activities from each department.

Chairman Seo Kyo-il said, "I am pleased that Soonchunhyang University is establishing itself as a leading university in the AI era by building on its strengths in medicine and biotechnology." He added, "I extend my gratitude to the faculty for their dedication to education and research, and I encourage them to continue serving as strong mentors for our students."

In his remarks, President Song Byeong-kug reaffirmed his commitment to supporting efforts to strengthen the university's research competitiveness and emphasized that the outcomes of government-funded programs should translate into tangible growth and success for students. He also called on faculty members to rethink teaching and assessment methods in the era of AI-driven transformation and take an active role in helping students engage in "genuine learning" that develops their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, rather than focusing solely on AI-generated results.
